Promoting healthy aging in Valencia through inclusive communication
How might we promote healthy aging in Valencia?
ValueCare is a European Union project with the aim of improving the health and well-being of people over 65 years of age who have lost their ability to perform important activities of daily living as a result of a pathology and/or chronic condition.
In total, 120 elderly people have participated in València in the “intervention” group and another 120 elderly people in the “control” group, together with professionals from the social and health care sector. All the people received a personalized health and wellness plan based on their needs, previously detected through an evaluation questionnaire.
In addition, ValueCare members participated in informative and interactive workshops on a monthly basis at their primary care centers to promote active and healthy living and to foster the “ValueCare Community”.
How might we consolidate the project results and health recommendations so that the participants can continue to implement them?
The ValueCare Guide: accessible communication for maintaining a healthy lifestyle during aging
We designed the ValueCare Guide to help maintain this community around the project, and to facilitate permanent access to the health recommendations worked on during the project. It had to be an accessible and easy-to-use guide for its audiences.
First, we analyzed the ValueCare project and its brand language, in order to align ourselves with it. We created a guide in two formats: physical (printed) and digital. The digital document is available from a QR in the printed version, and is prepared to work with assistive technologies that increase its accessibility. An example of these technologies are screen readers for people with reduced visibility. Other accessibility considerations include: text size and line spacing, colors with sufficient contrast, or the use of matte (not glossy) surfaces on the printed product to avoid glare.
The explanations in the guide are kept simple and understandable, and are supported by illustrations. These illustrations accompany the entire document, with a friendly and light visual language.
The printed guide is made of recycled material and with the advice of Impresum to minimize the environmental impact. In addition, we minimize the use of ink in the document, defining color spots with little surface, and using only the 2 colors of the brand identity in those pages where it is possible.
